About Me

If you are wondering about what is Crochengy, it is Crochet + my first name which is Engy. My grandmother helped me when I was thinking of a name to brand my work with it. Cool huh? 😃

You have no idea how many times I thought and decided to start my business in crochet. First I thought about selling the things I do, but soon realized this is not exactly what I want! I want to have an impact and show people how influential crochet is.

I decided to start a blog as a kick-off. Just to talk about how all of this is rolling in my head and share my experience and ideas to spread the knowledge.

So, to start with, let me tell how I started on crochet and crafts in general. Back in school when I was in grade 4 or 5 I think, we had one class every week where we learn about cooking, stitching, knitting and all house-related activities. I was fascinated by it and with the encouragement and support from my grandmother (an experienced crafts woman herself), I got more out of it and spent time doing projects for school events.

Moving forward to university when I was just a freshman, I met a friend's mother who asked me “do you know crochet?”. Here is where pure chance plays a big part. If it wasn't for that lady, I never would have known about what is crochet. She simply showed me the very basic thing in crochet which is the starting chain, and I was hooked! She even gave a crochet hook to practice with at home (which I still have till date). I went home googled crochet videos and went off with the simplest projects and made gifts for friends.

Fast forward 10 years later, here I am an experienced crafts woman who can do whatever with crochet. I can understand written patterns, diagrams and go for whatever project I want to do. I'm so proud of myself and I love the look on people's face when they see how good a finished project look.

Please feel free to subscribe to my YouTube channel, if you want to learn about crochet. I am posting tutorial videos in Arabic for now. Also, follow me on Instagram and Facebook to check out the cool pictures I post of my projects! 😉

Free Pattern Wrist Warmers with Stone Washed XL from Scheepjes

Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted here (again). It's really hard to get things in order, but it's best not to give up and just change tactics. I am taking my time to get my ducks in a row so that I don't lower any expectations. So today I am writing about one of my recent projects, which is wrist warmers with Stone Washed XL from Scheepjes. You have no idea how good this yarn is. It's made up of 70% cotton and 30% acrylic so it's so soft. I had no problem at all crocheting with it. Sometimes, with some yarn, the plies can get separated and the strand gets split as you crochet. So I would highly recommend Stone Washed XL yarn for beginners with a 5 mm crochet hook, which is the recommended size hook on the label too. I also love fingerless wrist warmers/gloves because you get to use the tips of your fingers as you type on your laptop or write with your pen. Basically, your hands would still function and you get to exercise your sense of t...

Amigurumi: Super Mario & Snoopy

This post has long been overdue. It has been sitting in my drafts menu for almost 2 months now!! I continued experimenting with Amigurumi with even more projects. I did Super Mario using AB Hariri and Snoopy using Excel which is specifically designed for making Amigurumis. I have to say that my experience with Excel was far more better than AB Hariri. Excel is softer than AB Hariri, my hands wouldn't feel tired after finishing work. The finished project looks more neat as well because Excel doesn't have that frizzy fiber coming out of it. I found a couple of tricks to help with weaving in ends and attaching the different parts together. I think these resources are great if you are new to Amigurumi. You can check out this great Youtube channel called June Gilbank for Amigurumi tips and tricks for beginners. There is this particular playlist  for right-handed people that contains all the basic tutorials and is all what you need to begin. Even better, the same playlist is...
